Comments: I was so shocked at how little the town seems to care that the land next to the birding center was handled in such a poor way. There are so amny unanswered questions such as who the partners are in the deal, why only one appraisals by a man who offices by the seller, why there was no purpose determined first for the land and if the city needed to buy land was this the best buy and why there was such a hurry in the deal that it could not go to the voters. This will affect all of us.

Comments: I am personally saddened by the resignation of Sammie & Sid Mills. I can assure everyone that POWC-SPI will continue to grow and evolve with a clear focus on our Statement of Purpose. It is my hope that we can soon reach a point of equilibrium so that all of our members feel that they are being represented fairly with regard to any actions taken by this organization. Ultimately, we all want the best for the Town of South Padre Island.

Comments: In recent weeks a number of events have transpired that have caused us to contemplate our membership in POWC. We were originally excited about the organization in January of 2007 and embraced their tenets of transparency and good government. Those tenets no longer seem to be viable within the organization.
Accept this note as our formal resignation from POWC.

Comments: My name is Dennis Barrett and I'm a new home owner here on south padre, but I have lived and rented here almost 20 years now. Watching the spike then glut in the real estate market then the extreme rise in our taxes I feel compelled to do something to battle the Appraisal District/Appraisal Board or who or whatever in order to bring the taxing method back down to where regular folk can still afford to live here. The taxing mechanism has failed and seemingly no entity stepped in to fix it, so it appears it now up to the people to do something about it. I propose even as far as creating a class action lawsuit against the Appraisal Board in steps to fix the problem of over taxation. Maybe there's other avenues to pursue, but with the threat of a class action suit, this will surely make our voices heard.
